Forest Trail Elementary's Lori Brandenburg and Westlake High School's Sam Ehlinger won Westlake Chamber of Commerce Westies and were presented the awards at the Chamber's luncheon February 16.
Lori Brandenburg, Educator of the Year:
With 20 years teaching experience, Lori Brandenburg has taught third grade at Forest Trail for the past 17 years. The relationships she forms with students and their parents are what Lori loves the most about teaching. Through humor, shared interests, and tuning into each student's needs, she addresses the whole child and provides learning that goes beyond academics. Lori and her husband, Pat, have lived in Lost Creek for 21 years and have seen their three children graduate from Forest Trail, West Ridge and Westlake.
Sam Ehlinger, Outstanding Young Citizen of the Year:
Sam is a junior at Westlake and has been a student in Eanes ISD since first grade. While maintaining straight A's, he enjoys choir, sports and coaching kids. He earned the quarterback position as a sophomore and is blessed to be coached by Coach Dodge and the other wonderful coaches at WHS. With their help, Sam broke both Nick Foles' and Drew Brees' all-time passing records this year. He regularly works with the youth in the community, helping them with football skills and talks to young sports teams about hard work and dedication. He has won numerous awards: Max Preps National Junior of the Year, 6A All-State Offensive Player of the Year, 6A First Team All-State, Central Texas Player of the Year, Central Texas First Team, AP Player of the Year for Texas, and District 6A-14 MVP.
