PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING

“C’mon, take me to the Mardi Gras where the people sing and play…”  - Paul Simon - “Take Me to the Mardi Gras”

What a wonderful evening we shared last Saturday!  Carly and I always love getting to see everyone, and we appreciate the date night!  I want to once again thank Paige Darby, Mary Katherine Stout, and Kate McGrath for chairing this event and Jen Brannan, Katie Cranis, Kristen Dharamsi, Virginia Miracle, Stephanie Owens, Lyra Powell, Christie Schultz, and Beth Shields for all of their time, efforts, and coordination aimed towards a successful evening.   As anyone there can attest, you certainly know how to throw a party!

I would also like to recognize several others for their efforts as well.  A very special appreciation to:

Chrissy Compere for making ACC look like NOLA.

Hillary Cumberworth for sharing her time and talents with our students to create the class art auction items.

Kay Lee Fordham & Elizabeth Thompson on the countless hours donated to all things silent auction.

Kelly Bennett, Michelle Brandl, Katie Tucker, and Diana Uhlaender who were responsible for the ever-popular jewelry pull.

Logan Pike for making online bidding possible and the hours of entering in data to make it an easy process and allowing those not able to attend to be included and support our school.

Kristen Yen (Westlake Bakes) for hand-decorated 300 amazing cookies and donated them to the event. I can’t imagine how much time that must have taken!

Rob Johnson and his team for making FTE a priority and the production of the incredible video shown at the event.  (I am including the video in this newsletter as I think everyone should see it.)

Our numerous sponsors for attention and support of our school and we hope to return the favor.

It truly takes a village, and without a shadow of a doubt, we have the best around!

Lastly, thank you for allowing me a portion of the evening to speak about our goal of sending staff to the Ron Clark Academy for an a once-in-a-career opportunity.  I phrased it as “Disneyland” for teachers, and I don’t think I’m overselling it. Initially, our goal was to hopefully send 8 – 10 teachers to Atlanta and learn from our educational heroes.  Because of your support, it looks like we’ll be sending 12!  I cannot emphasize what an incredible position this puts us in.  The experience at RCA will cast the widest net possible and impact every student in the building while providing meaningful, engaging professional development for our staff.  As you will remember, we’ve been using Ron Clark’s Essential 55 as a road map for our own Core 10 agreements.  Campus-wide, we have intentionally been preparing and hoping for this opportunity.  Thanks to your support, this hope has suddenly become very real.  We are already looking at possible dates for our trip and have begun the process of finding the staff cohort that will lead us forward.

I simply cannot thank you enough.
