![]() August 22, 2019 PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING Welcome Back, Falcons!
It was an amazing first day back with our students! Our halls were filled with excitement, smiling faces, hugs, and summer stories.
It was also filled with adults in green glasses and capes! As you know, EISD is placing an emphasis on being kind. And FTE is doing the same. We will wear our green glasses to remind everyone the value we place on treating others kindly. Yesterday, we had a surprise assembly to welcome everyone back. All 554 of our students filled the cafeteria to watch a video of our Superhero Staff Members sharing what it means to be respectful and learning the importance of their own superpower…their smile. Ms. Etter and Mrs. Reaves even taught us how to execute a real Super Hero Stance (Thank you, Erik Qualman). It’s an amazing sight to see every teacher and student standing strong, proud, completely silent and thinking only about kindness for ten whole seconds! Truly, one of the coolest things I’ve ever been a part of. ![]() ![]() Before we dismissed for the day, I talked about my idea of respect. I shared something my grandfather made sure I understood very early on. Paw-Paw used to say “Cody, always leave it better than you found it.” Whatever “it” is, I’ve tried every day to do just that. Whether it’s a physical space or a project, be sure to make a positive contribution. It’s easy to leave the cafeteria better than we found it by cleaning up. But it’s a bit harder when it comes to a person and how we make others feel. As a dad, I struggle with when I ask my kids how their day went or what they did that day, they respond with “I don’t know.” So, a while back, I started asking my kids, “Whose day did you make better?” Every day I look forward to hearing how they have contributed to another person’s path. Yesterday, I issued the same challenge to the students of Forest Trail. I have challenged them to leave situations better than they found it and to have an answer for when I or anyone else asked, “Whose day did you make better?”. Please join me in making our campus and our community a better place by recognizing others and how we can impact them.
On to some logistics… The first few days of school often come with some opportunities to refine. Such is the case with our busses. As the transportation department works to fine tune their routes, I thank you for your continued patience. I understand the inconvenience and stressors it can cause, and I’m confident all will right itself very soon. Please email me or the transportation department with any concerns. We are also working on fine tuning our afternoon pick-up procedure and are asking for your help. We have sent home a packet for you to have in your car so we can identify who you are picking up. Please contact your teacher with any questions and thank you for following these basic rules of the car line (AM or PM).
1. Hang up your phones. 2. Follow the directions of staff. 3. Do NOT park on the crosswalk. KEEP THE WALK CLEAR FOR PEDESTRIANS. 4. Pull up as far as possible. (Two cars should fit on either side of the crosswalk) 5. Stay in your vehicle. Staff can assist with doors and car seats. 6. Whenever possible, children will load/unload from the passenger side.
Thanks so much, and here’s to a great year! SCHOOL NEWS

Meghan Sorrel and Leah Turner, 2019-2020 Co- Presidents Support FTE through the No-Hassle Fundraiser
Our annual FTE No-Hassle Fundraiser is our Booster Club’s means of raising funds to support FTE’s countless programs that are important to the education of our children but are not funded by the school’s operating budget. This simple approach asks families to make a direct donation instead of gathering pledges or selling products. 100% of your donation goes to FTE Booster Club with no fees being paid to outside companies. Our goal this year is 100% of families participating with a suggested donation of $130 per student. You can choose from a list of specific items to sponsor or donate any amount you choose. Every dollar counts and will go directly to the FTE Booster Club! The deadline to donate is September 28th (Bingo Night). Prizes will be awarded to classes that reach 100% participation, and every family who donates will be entered into weekly raffle drawings for gift cards to local hot spots! Donate early for more chances to win!!! Donate online via the Booster Club Website (http://tinyurl.com/ftenohassle2019).

This weekly snack is enjoyed by both our amazing students and faculty. Please volunteer one morning a month to keep the popcorn popping, or sign up as an occasional substitute when needed.
