SCHOOL NEWS

COUNSELOR'S CORNER

As you learned last week our classroom visits this month are focusing on "Growth Mindset".  Our primary students are learning to utilize "yet" in their thinking and language when they face a challenge.   Our older students are learning the same ideas but as we discuss neuroplasticity and the power of thoughts.  Students are learning that mistakes lead to opportunities to stretch and grow their brains.

If you watch the 5th Grade SEL Assembly Videos on Mondays you'll find that we have added a segment called Mindful Minute on Mondays.  Each week we will help our students and families take a moment to focus on their breath to help learn to calm minds and bodies during anxious or uncomfortable situations.   Psychological research shows that utilizing mindfulness regularly can help develop executive function skills and improve mental health in not only children but also adults.  You can visit our website to practice more mindfulness activities at home. When you visit the webpage click on each picture to learn more about Mindfulness.

FALCON STRONG, TOGETHER

Even in 2020 (or maybe especially in 2020), November is a month to celebrate all the ways in which we are thankful. As we power through the stress and challenges of this year, we want to express how thankful we are for our FTE community - for the generosity and spirit of our families, for the dedication and drive of our teachers and staff, and for all the ways we’re able to stay connected this school term. We encourage you to think of ways our school enriches your family and share those spots of thankfulness with the folks who make it all possible!

We’re also thankful for these upcoming events and happenings…

SAVE THE DATE: FTE at the Drive-In on Sunday, December 6

KEVINNNNN!

More fun than a transcontinental flight for 15, we hope your whole family will safely enjoy this socially-distanced cinematic event! Don’t be what the French call les incompetents - mark your calendars, get all the details, and buy your tickets and your festive snack packs (but take it easy on the Pepsi, Fuller!) now on the Booster Club website.

NEXT WEEK: General Membership Meeting

Our general membership meeting for November will take place next Friday, November 13 at 8:30 AM via Zoom. This month, in addition to our regularly scheduled {BC update} programming, we will participate in a conversation surrounding racial justice led by Emlyn Lee, founder of the nonprofit organization BRAVE Communities. Emlyn will help us ponder the definition of racial justice, its importance in our community, and ways in which our families can practice what we preach.  You won’t want to miss this important dialogue - especially if you’ve been grappling with ways to talk with your kids about race and social change. Zoom Meeting ID and more details to come.

COMMUNITY ASK: Disinfecting Wipes & Spray Drive

Booster Club is currently collecting disinfecting wipes and spray for distribution to all Forest Trail staff.  While our custodial staff fastidiously disinfects our entire school each evening, teachers have their own cleaning routines and preferences, and we want to help in any way we can to support them feeling secure and safe in their spaces. There will be a bin to drop off any products you’re able to score in your Curbside order or on your Target run under the overhang. Please select brands that say “kills 99.9% of germs.” Pro Tip: OfficeMax has no limits on cleaning supplies!

SPIRIT NIGHT: Mod Pizza on Wednesday, November 11

Give yourself a break from the kitchen and give back to FTE by ordering takeout or delivery from MOD Pizza on Wednesday, November 11th! Spirit “Night” will actually span the entire day, beginning at 10:30 AM and ending at 10:00 PM.  Please use the code GR159370F when placing your order.

And Save the Date for upcoming Spirit Nights: December 9th at Modern Market and January 13th at UNO Pizza.

LAST CALL: Holiday Ornaments

Show your school spirit - holiday style! - by placing your order for FTE, WRMS, and WHS ornaments today. These handmade beauties feature our community schools’ mascots, as well as an option to personalize the back with your student’s name and the year. Each ornament is $15 and the deadline to purchase is Friday, November 6.

HELP SUPPORT EANES CREATIVES

Two of our amazing EISD teachers have teamed up to write a children’s book!  FTE’s own Mr. Aseron and Ms. Schafer from Eanes Elementary have authored and illustrated Sir Dorian, an adventure story that promotes musical creativity. If you’d like to help fund the final stages of publication, you can learn more and support their efforts here.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND: Grab Bags

Our school store grab bags were such a success, we’re making them available weekly! The bags are $10 each and all orders will be delivered (or available for pickup) the week after you complete your order on Membership Toolkit.

BIRTHDAY CARDS

With more kiddos attending school in-building, we are reviving the electronic birthday cards that run the month of your child’s birthday (or half birthday) on the communication screens in the cafeteria and lobby. For further information, instructions, and to purchase, visit our website.

Building Self-Awareness and Self-Management Skills in 2020
The second nine weeks of the 2020-21 school year is upon us, and what a ride it’s been up until this point.  From the time we went into Remote Learning last March until now, parents, students, and Eanes ISD staff have had to roll with the punches. We were all required to reflect on our values and to build grit.  Reflection and resiliency are skills that we as parents and educators want to build within our students and ourselves. We want our children to be...
