![]() August 29, 2019 PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING Forest Trail has always believed in serving the whole child and providing our students with the necessary tools to navigate beyond the classroom. The staff at FTE has made character development a priority this year and have revisited the work of Ron Clark. In his book, The Essential 55, he shares what he believes to be 55 life skills every child should have at their disposal. Over the summer, our staff re-read the book through a very specific Forest Trail lens. With our students at the forefront of our mind, staff revamped those 55 topics into what we are calling our “Core Ten”.
“I will…” 1. Respect the comments, opinions, and ideas of others. 2. Show interest in others. 3. Be respectful with my actions and gestures. 4. Transition swiftly, quietly, and orderly. 5. Keep myself and the bathrooms clean and germ-free. 6. Be responsible for myself, my trash, and my area in the cafeteria. 7. Be helpful. 8. Be a good leader. 9. Take school-wide drills and procedures seriously. 10. Be the best person I can be.
This set of ten principles are ones the staff of Forest Trail believe are vitally important in the larger picture of the development of our students. Your children will be learning more of what the above means and looks like. Beginning next week, my newsletter and our social media platforms will provide examples for you all so you can engage your children in conversations and continue to support us build awesome adults.
I wish you all a very happy weekend filled with fun, family, and the first weekend of football! SCHOOL NEWS

We are so grateful to all of the Forest Trail families who have already made their donations to the 2019 No-Hassle Fundraiser, our Booster Club's primary fundraiser of the year. Our goal this year is 100% of families participating with a suggested donation of $130 per student. Prizes will be awarded to the classes with the highest percentage participation in each grade and classes that reach 100% participation. Plus, every family that donates will be entered to win one of several family-friendly gift cards—make your gift early for better chances to win! Congratulations to these lucky winners so far: Kelly & Kevin Bennett, Angelica & Mike Lancaster, and Lauren & Brad Burris.
