May 2, 2019 PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING And now a word from our Assistant Principal… Wait…what? Yup…Forest Trail will have an Assistant Principal! It is my absolute joy to announce that Michael Buthe will be joining the administrative team at Forest Trail next year. Many of you know Mr. Buthe from his 4 years as an FTE second grade teacher, and serving as our instructional partner the last three years. He is a student-centered master educator who has knowledge of our students, a relationship with our families, and the respect of our staff. Additionally, Mr. Buthe was selected by his peers as Forest Trail's Educator of the Year! Every year, the staff nominates educators they feel support and inspire our staff and students. We want to congratulate our many nominees and our Educator of the Year finalists, kindergarten teacher, Karen Purdy, and 4th grade teacher, Leann Brookshire. I'm Michael Buthe, and I have been a member of the Forest Trail community for 7 years now. I've had great experiences working with many of you in my 4 years as a second grade teacher here and recently in my 3 years as the Instructional Partner. I look forward to meeting those I have not had the pleasure of meeting yet and continuing the high standard of excellence we all want from our school and for our children. Prior to joining our campus, I worked in Austin ISD and in Illinois. I have 20 years of experience teaching kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5thgrades, and an additional 3 years' experience as an Assistant Principal in Austin ISD. I feel very fortunate to continue my work at Forest Trail as the new Assistant Principal starting in August.

Thank you everyone who has donated a gift card or sent money via Venmo for the Staff Appreciation Week gift card drawing. The deadline is TOMORROW, so if you haven't yet made a donation, please take a moment to do so now. You can drop a $10 or $15 gift card in the labeled box in the front office, or you can Venmo your donation to @Katie-Tucker-8. Thank you! Showing our staff how much we appreciate all they do for our children helps ensure that we can keep great talent each year.
Get your child's creative juices flowing! On Tuesday, May 7, students will bring their teacher(s), and/or other FTE staff, handmade gifts to express their appreciation/affection. This is completely optional, but the goal is to celebrate the special connections between students and FTE staff members. Past gifts have included homemade cards, drawings and small creations. Simple or complex - no matter. It's the thought that counts! If you have any questions about the homemade gift, please contact Alison Bogle at alisonbogle@hotmail.com
Thanks for helping to make Staff Appreciation Week 2019 a great one!
