![]() April 25, 2019 PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING Student Attendance Reminder
Student attendance is one of the most common predictors of academic achievement. Students who consistently miss school hours develop habits that will lead into their adult life, affecting their education, career, and social connections. In contrast, students who participate fully in school activities will have more opportunities to achieve academically, make healthy and informed lifestyle choices, and develop those soft skills we wish for our students. Research suggests integrity, initiative, grit, and leadership traits in students are more evident with those who regularly attend school and are on time as opposed to their counterparts.
A top priority at our school is student achievement and maximizing instructional minutes. Tardies are a major disruption to the learning environment and student learning. In addition to the learning of others stopping while the tardy student settles into his/her seat, students also rush into the building feeling hurried and anxious. Students miss the introduction and instructions to the day's lesson. In many cases, students miss their community circle. This is a practice we work very hard to protect and emphasize. Student tardies continue to be a problem. As a campus, we are still processing approximately 50 tardies a day. At this point in their academic careers, our students are dependent on others to deliver them to school on time. Thank you for making it a priority to have your child to school on time and setting them up for a great day of learning.
SCHOOL NEWS FTE Staff Appreciation Week...
May 6th-10th is Staff Appreciation Week at FTE, and the Staff Appreciation Committee is planning a week full of treats to spoil our amazing staff!
How can YOU help?
1. Donate a $10 or $15 gift card(s) for a gift card drawing. You can drop the card(s) in the labeled box in the front office beginning Tuesday, April 23, or you can Venmo your donation to @Katie-Tucker-8. Popular gift cards include local eateries, movie theaters, nail salons and stores such as Target and H-E-B.
2. Do you own a business? Consider donating a prize to our big prize giveaway on the last day of the week. Contact Katie Tucker at katie.t.tucker@gmail.com if you're interested in donating or sponsoring a prize. Prize donors get a shout-out to staff and in the Trailblazer!
3. Get your child's creative juices flowing! On Tuesday, May 7th, students will bring their teacher(s), and/or other FTE staff, handmade gifts to express their appreciation/affection. This is completely optional, but the goal is to celebrate the special connections between students and FTE staff members. Past gifts have included homemade cards, drawings and small creations. Simple or complex - no matter. It's the thought that counts! If you have any questions about the homemade gift, please contact Alison Bogle at alisonbogle@hotmail.com
Thanks for helping to make Staff Appreciation Week 2019 a great one!
