PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING

Happy Thursday and Happy New Year, Falcon Families!

I hope everyone had a joyous holiday season and got a little downtime with your precious kiddos while they were home. My family and I took full advantage of the extra time for resting up. We enjoyed a short trip to San Antonio early in the break and loved seeing the zoo and Riverwalk dressed to impress for the season. The highlight of the trip came in the form of a lynx testing the strength of the glass between him and my kids. While it gave me pause…they enjoyed immensely.

Forest Trail staff returned on Monday morning in order to get back into the swing of things and to prepare for a building full of students. Thank you to the Staff Appreciation Committee for welcoming us back a gift of either a 15 minute massage or a Target gift card. The staff are so appreciative as there are always last minute supplies to pick up and who can pass down one last opportunity to relax and be pampered before the spring semester begins. Tuesday, the building was full of team building in classrooms and welcoming our Falcons back. We are so thankful to have them in our halls (maybe as happy as you are to send them back) and have loved hearing their stories of their antics during their time away. We are hitting the ground running in this new year as the students will be taking their middle of the year benchmarks in math and reading this month.

As we move forward in the second semester, our SEL focus will be on kindness and being concerned for others. Not coincidentally, FTE's Annual Food and Diaper Drive kicks off next week and will provide our students with a real-world opportunity to apply kindness and empathy in a real way.

Please be aware of our calendar and keep an eye out for our big upcoming events: Open House, Science Fair deadlines, Spirit Nights, and the FTE Auction/Party.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

FTE Rock Reminder...

All six elementary schools in Eanes ISD are participating in a site-specific art installation which will be displayed outside the Central Administration building this spring. The Forest Trail art teachers have designed a work of art that utilizes river rocks or landscaping rocks. This is an intentional "nod" to the Forest Trail tradition of giving students Character Rocks. Students will paint the rocks in art class, and the installation will be moved to the Forest Trail property after the district-wide show is over. Please have your child bring in one smooth, round-edged river rock or landscaping rock. They may be delivered to the art rooms no later than Friday, January 11th!
