PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING

Image

Forest Trail has certainly been busy.  Today, our 5th graders returned to FTE following three days at Live Oak.  Today we are also supporting/offering counseling services to our teachers as they instruct your children the day after Halloween, and tomorrow is STEAM FEST!  All of this comes on the heels of conference week and a HUGE live art project our students were involved in last Friday.

As the calendar changes to November, we tend to become more deliberate with our appreciations.  As mentioned above, our students and staff have been blessed with some amazing experiences, and none of them would be possible without our parents.  I would like to thank Amberlee Cantrell, FTE Cultural Arts Chair, for the detailed coordination of our Special Specials event(s) during our teacher conferences.  Additional thanks to Hank and Sheridan Wilson and Sunscape Landscaping for the generous donation of materials to create our bat image. Lastly, thank you to the many helpers who made themselves available to assist in supporting our art and music classes, taking pictures, organizing students in a large bat, and even doing the Cupid Shuffle.

The Forest Trail staff would also like to thank Alison Bogle, Collen Dartez and Katie Tucker, FTE Staff Appreciation Committee Co-Chairs, for all of their efforts geared towards treating our staff to lunch three days in a row.  Our teachers look forward to this annual event more than you know.  I would like to offer my most sincere gratitude to the parents who provided lasagnas, salads, soups, Taco Deli, desserts, and drinks on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday last week.

One last reminder, tomorrow is EEF Donation Day! This is your last chance to receive a match for your $365 donation, entry into the raffle for ACL tickets and the last chance to help your class earn a silly string dance party featuring some special guests.

Sr. Webelos Halloween Candy Drive

FTE's 5th Grade Cub Scouts are sponsoring a Halloween Candy Drive benefitting Mobile Loaves and Fishes.

Please bring unwanted candy to Forest Trail on Wed-Fri, Nov 1-9 to donate to this amazing foundation.

Cleaning out your Closets? De-Cluttering ?

We may have a place for your unwanted/unneeded items!

DVDs- Community First has opened their library and are searching for DVDs to add to their collection.

Unopened travel size shampoo or soap are also wanted. This is FTE's tenth year to provide toiletry care packages to the homeless. By the end of this year we will have donated over 15,000 packages to local food pantries. If you travel and stay at a place where these are provided, please consider bringing home your unused products.

Aluminum pull tabs are being collected and donated to the Ronald McDonald House.

Clean, re-usable shopping bags will be collected and brought to local food pantries so that those getting groceries may have bags to carry their items.

Any of these items may be brought to the FTE gym, There will be a collection box placed by the equipment room doors. We appreciate your generosity!

Old/Used/New College T-Shirts Needed:
My niece, Lindsey Etter, is a first year teacher at Barbara Bush Middle School in Farmers Branch/Carrolton, Texas. Every Wednesday they have, "Wear Your Favorite College T-Shirt Day" to promote college preparation. Sadly, most students can't afford a shirt. Our wonderful FTE staff has donated 25 shirts, but there are 1000 students, so I'm trying to collect as many as possible. If you have a college t-shirt you could donate, please send it with your student or drop it by my office.

Thank you in advance for your help with this!

Care Package Project Thank You!

We would like to thank the following companies that donated travel size toiletry products to help us in our toiletry care package project:

HEB

Walmart

Dr. Randall Kunik

FTE has been assembling toiletry care packages for the homeless for the past ten years. Since the introduction of Socktober to our school several years ago we have also been able to include a pair of socks with most of the toiletry packets.

We appreciate the help that we have received from the community that allows us to continue with this project.
