PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING

Dear Neighbors,

Thank you for a wonderful first few weeks of school!  We are very pleased to be back into the swing of things, building relationships and learning.  This year we are using the wise words from a dear friend, Mr. Rogers, to guide us and serve as reminders of how unique our work is and how privileged we are to be able to do what we do.   Thank you for sharing your children with us, and we are so very fortunate to be in the FTE neighborhood.

A few reminders/housekeeping items as we close the week:

Please remember that ALL student drop offs and parent pick-ups are to take place at the front of our building.  Students are not to be picked up or dropped off at the rear entrance of the school as we are not staffed to ensure student safety in that location at those times, and we must keep the back drive accessible to the buses.

Tomorrow, FTE will celebrate International Dot Day.  We are encouraging our students to wear dots on Friday, September 14, to celebrate taking risks, creativity and encouraging others.  The dottier the better!  You can refer below for more details.

The staff at FTE would like to thank Mary Katherine Stout & Kate McGrath for feeding us and supporting our Booster Club at the same time.  The pizzas and salad from MOD Pizza were a welcomed surprise and were very much appreciated.

On that same note I wanted to thank everyone who ate at MOD Pizza yesterday! I appreciate your patience at the register...it was my first day behind the line (that's what it's called in the biz) and I apologize for any delays or missing cups! It was so great to see such and amazing turnout and my fellow MOD co-workers were impressed with the number of online orders! As always, thanks for showing your support and being there for Forest Trail.

Have a great weekend!

SCHOOL NEWS

Celebrate Dot Day- September 14, 2018

International Dot Day 2018 will be celebrated Friday, September 14. The inspiration for Dot Day originated from Peter H. Reynolds book The Dot. In the book, Vashti feels frustrated in art class and her teacher says, "Just make a mark and see where it takes you." Vashti realizes she is capable at drawing dots and the more she practices the more skillful she becomes. By the end of the book Vashti is encouraging another student to take the same risk she did. So, we are celebrating taking reasonable risks, creativity, and encouraging others. Classroom teachers will be reading the story, discussing it, and participating in various activities. Please have your child dress in dots that day to celebrate.

Picture Day is Thursday, Sept. 20th

Falcon Frolics

On Friday, September 21, 2018, the Forest Trail PE Department will sponsor our annual Falcon Frolics.  This is a fun filled day that highlights some of the activities that the children have been involved in during their Physical Education class. There will be three sessions.

The first session will be for the third, fourth and fifth graders. It will take place from 8:40am - 10:10am. These three grade levels will take part in thirteen different activities. They will participate as a homeroom.

The second session will be for first and second graders. It will take place from 10:30am -11:30am.

The third session will be for kindergarteners. It will take place from 11:45am - 12:30pm. These are non-competitive stations.  Participation and enjoyment are stressed.

We would like to invite you to join us for this special event. Please join us if you are available! Below are links to follow if you would like to volunteer to help run a station:

Popcorn Volunteers Still Needed!

We are in need of one more Popcorn volunteer to fill a 7:00-8:30am shift beginning on October 4th and repeating once a month. Weekly popcorn snack has been an awesome tradition at Forest Trail for many years and is much appreciated by our amazing students and faculty, in addition to being a huge fundraiser for our school. We need all our popcorn teams filled in order to keep the popcorn popping! Please reach out to Mia Townsend @ Miattownsend@gmail.com or 512-608-7777.
