Forest Trail Elementary

I cannot believe we are at the end of the fall semester!  It has flown by and I've completely enjoyed the privilege of watching our students grow and learn.  We have placed an emphasis on Social Emotional Learning, and our Falcons will no doubt wow friends and family with their active listening skills; they should be able to tell anyone who asks that we listen with our eyes, our ears and our hearts.  They have focused on showing empathy, trying to understand how others feel and showing mutual respect to everyone.  The hard work and the instruction from teachers have more than paid off.  I have received so many phone calls from community members and performers applauding what kind and respectful students we have at FTE.  Next semester we will continue our SEL focus and concentrate on kindness and being concerned for others.  As we head into to our break please look for opportunities for real world application of these all important soft skills that are proving to be more essential every day.

I want to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.  Please use this time to recharge and relax.  May your travels be safe and hearts be warm.  Personally, my crew will be staying local and "Griswaldian" as family from all over will come to stay with us for a few days.  We're excited and very thankful for the time our kids will have with their cousin from DC.

Lastly, a few housekeeping items: tomorrow marks the deadline for signing up for the Science Fair.  Please see the website/newsletter for details.  Forest Trail Open House will be held on January 25; please mark your calendars and I hope to see everyone there.

Thank you for sharing your children with us; they are doing you proud every day.

Is there a FTE Staff Member You Would Like to Recognize...

Library Links by Bonnie Seelig

A special thank you to the Booster Club and all those who supported this year's book fair. Funds from both sources provided new library furniture with a sleek new look and diverse functionality. Since groups of various sizes visit the library, the tables support this multi-use room by folding and nesting. While the "kid-friendly" chairs add to the quick set-up by being lightweight and stackable. Be sure to visit the library and try out the new furniture!

Have a great holiday!

How to Do An Elementary Science Fair Project – Student Guide

Share a Story

Forest Trail is proud to announce that we are starting an audio book library.  We have created a website that will go live later in December that will have student submissions of student read alouds. Our hope is that we can create a wide variety of stories that people can listen to on our website.  Students can tape themselves reading a short story, upload those files through a Google form, and then see their work appear on the website.  This is entirely optional, and it might be a fun way for kids to practice and promote their reading.

  • They start by taking photos of the pages inside the book they would like to read. They should practice reading their story before recording themselves.
  • Using an app or program that allows for audio over photos, students should read the story.
  • Some apps/programs that may be useful for the activity include: Clips, QuickTime, ShadowPuppets
  • Students (or parents) should upload the audio book via the Google form.                                                    *Use the link:  goo.gl/eCpKWA

*Students will need to login with their school email account

-Login is initials, lunch number, "@eanesisd.net"

-Password is on the back of their school ipads (usually starts with "Trail" and is followed                                     by 3 letters and 1 number)

  • The video will be added to the new Forest Trail Audio Library.  A link to this library will be added to the Forest Trail website.  Their files will be titles by first name, last initial, and the title of the story.

These stories can be picture books, poems, or short stories, but they should not last more than about 10 minutes.  Character voices are encouraged.
