Forest Trail Elementary

"When given the choice between being right and being kind choose kind."

This is a quote that many of our FTE students are familiar with as many have read the fantastic novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio.  Our fourth and fifth graders became a bit more familiar with this as they were treated to a screening of the movie adaptation of the novel.  I want to extend a HUGE "thank you" to the FTE Booster Club for allowing this to happen.  Falcons filled four theaters in an otherwise unoccupied theater on Monday morning and the classroom discussion following the trip have been truly insightful.  Fifth-grader Lauren Daniel was excited to share her takeaway: "it really shows kids not to judge a book by its cover, not to judge people by how they look because you don't know what they've been through."

Thank you to the FTE community and Booster Club for allowing us to take advantage of opportunities outside the classroom to create memories and bonds that will strengthen our children and provide them with applications of the social-emotional learning that is taking place in our community circles every day.

As we head into the last week before the break please remember to choose kind.  Also, I've heard rumors of FTE having a special guest every morning next week.  Keep your eyes open for a new friend on the way to school.

Have a great weekend!

Thank you so much, Forest Trail Families and Friends. The three day Scholastic Holiday Book Fair was quite a success. The library received almost $2,000 to use for books, seating and additional databases.

How to Do An Elementary Science Fair Project – Student Guide

Share a Story

Forest Trail is proud to announce that we are starting an audio book library.  We have created a website that will go live later in December that will have student submissions of student read alouds. Our hope is that we can create a wide variety of stories that people can listen to on our website.  Students can tape themselves reading a short story, upload those files through a Google form, and then see their work appear on the website.  This is entirely optional, and it might be a fun way for kids to practice and promote their reading.

  • They start by taking photos of the pages inside the book they would like to read. They should practice reading their story before recording themselves.
  • Using an app or program that allows for audio over photos, students should read the story.
  • Some apps/programs that may be useful for the activity include: Clips, QuickTime, ShadowPuppets
  • Students (or parents) should upload the audio book via the Google form.                                                    *Use the link:  goo.gl/eCpKWA

*Students will need to login with their school email account

-Login is initials, lunch number, "@eanesisd.net"

-Password is on the back of their school ipads (usually starts with "Trail" and is followed                                     by 3 letters and 1 number)

  • The video will be added to the new Forest Trail Audio Library.  A link to this library will be added to the Forest Trail website.  Their files will be titles by first name, last initial, and the title of the story.

These stories can be picture books, poems, or short stories, but they should not last more than about 10 minutes.  Character voices are encouraged.
