PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and enjoyed their time away. Last Tuesday, the FTE Booster Club Staff Appreciation Committee provided our staff with pies from Whole Foods. We are beyond blessed to work at a campus in which we are so well taken care of, and I cannot express how much our staff appreciates this tradition. Special thanks to Melissa Howitt, Alison Bogle and Karyn Reiber for coordinating the ordering and delivering of 85 pies.

Please be sure to check out the School News section to learn about our "Share A Story" audio library.

Reminder...Falcon Finest Acknowledgements

Please join me in spreading those feel good vibes around our campus.  Everyday our bus drivers, custodians, office staff, and teachers are doing incredible things.  If there is a FTE staff member you would like to recognize for their contributions, please let  me know by clicking the link below.

SCHOOL NEWS

Library Links by Bonnie Seelig

The Library's Holiday Book Fair will begin on Sunday, Dec. 3rd.  This year's profit from the fair will fund additional databases, books and library seating.

The dates and hours are as follows:

Sunday,  Dec. 3rd,  from 12:00 pm  - 4:00 pm.  (Teacher Wish Lists will be available in the library at this time.)

Monday, Dec. 4th,  from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.

Tuesday, Dec.  5th,  from 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.

Book Fair Toy Store (erasers, pens, pencils, posters, etc) is open for parents during fair times.  However, students  access is limited:  before and after school and accompanied by a parent. This store restriction will ensure that money sent by parents for books will be used to purchase only books.  Most paperbacks cost between $5.00 and $10.00 including tax.  If parents send a child with cash, they usually decide that $10 is the right amount to find a book the child wants.  See you at the Scholastic Book Fair!

Share a Story

Forest Trail is proud to announce that we are starting an audio book library.  We have created a website that will go live later in December that will have student submissions of student read alouds. Our hope is that we can create a wide variety of stories that people can listen to on our website.  Students can tape themselves reading a short story, upload those files through a Google form, and then see their work appear on the website.  This is entirely optional, and it might be a fun way for kids to practice and promote their reading.

  • They start by taking photos of the pages inside the book they would like to read. They should practice reading their story before recording themselves.
  • Using an app or program that allows for audio over photos, students should read the story.
  • Some apps/programs that may be useful for the activity include: Clips, QuickTime, ShadowPuppets
  • Students (or parents) should upload the audio book via the Google form.                                                    *Use the link:  goo.gl/eCpKWA

*Students will need to login with their school email account

-Login is initials, lunch number, "@eanesisd.net"

-Password is on the back of their school ipads (usually starts with "Trail" and is followed                                     by 3 letters and 1 number)

  • The video will be added to the new Forest Trail Audio Library.  A link to this library will be added to the Forest Trail website.  Their files will be titles by first name, last initial, and the title of the story.

These stories can be picture books, poems, or short stories, but they should not last more than about 10 minutes.  Character voices are encouraged.
