PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING
Yet again, our BINGO Night was a huge success. It is a real treat seeing so many of our families sitting and laughing together while they wait for their card to fill up. Thank you to everyone who attended and volunteered to work the event. So many parents and teachers were in attendance serving pizza, selling cards and raffle tickets, and checking for winners. Our cafeteria and custodial staff were also present to keep the event safe and clean. I would like to extend a special "thank you" to Anne Grigg, Laura Robinson, Kara Brown & Debbie Lopez for their efforts in organizing and managing the event. Lastly, a HUGE shout out to Jim Clark for emceeing and being our official "caller" for the evening.
A few housekeeping items:
1) Falcon Frolics has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 3, as the threat of rain looms over us tomorrow. Thank you for your understanding and any complications this may have caused.
2) Thank you all for being great models and starting our students' days off on a positive foot. While traffic can be congested and all the jockeying for position can be frustrating, I appreciate our Falcon Families for being mindful of the children in their own vehicle as well as those in the vehicles around them during the commute. You certainly have a captive audience in the car, and your morning drive sets the tone for their day. The staff at FTE appreciates you setting them up for success.

"Cardboard Creativity Day"!
On October 6, 2017, Forest Trail Elementary is celebrating "Cardboard Creativity Day"!
On Friday, October 6th, students are invited to create their own cardboard game to share with their class. This optional activity encourages students to just create – explore building a game with cardboard – one where others can visit and play.

About "Caine's Arcade":
Caine's Arcade is a short film about a 9-year-old boy's cardboard arcade, and his dream of having customers. The 11-minute video was posted online on April 9th, 2012, and became a global viral phenomenon. The film received over 1 million views in the first 24 hours, and it trended worldwide on Twitter. It received international media attention and was added to MoMA's permanent collection. …... Tens-of-thousands of customers visited Caine's Arcade to play, and kids around the world began making their own cardboard arcades. Shortly after posting the film, the filmmaker founded a non-profit called Imagination.org which launched a Global Cardboard Challenge to foster kid creativity worldwide.
Author Visit
BookPeople is sponsoring another author visit for Forest Trail and Valley View 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students. Dan Santat, author of THE ADVENTURES OF BEEKLE, THE UNIMAGINARY FRIEND, will visit on Thursday, Oct. 5th.

Falcon Frolics Has Been Rescheduled to Tuesday, Oct. 3rd!
Due to weather, Falcon Frolics has been rescheduled to Tuesday, Oct. 3rd. This is a fun filled day that highlights some of the activities that the children have been involved in during their Physical Education class. There will be three sessions. We would like to invite you to join us for this special event. Please join us if you are available! We look forward to seeing you at Falcon Frolics!

Please join us on Friday, October 6th, at 8:45 for coffee and conversation with Principal Spaberry followed by a presentation from Carl Hooker, Director of Innovation & Digital Learning for EISD that you DON'T want to miss as a parent! Carl will walk through technology your kids are exposed to and how to keep them safe.
STEAMfest (formally Sciencefest)
STEAMfest is rolling our way on Friday, November 3rd! If you are interested in presenting at STEAMfest (all presentations/demonstrations under the STEAM umbrella welcome) please contact Leslie Odom at lesliedmullen@gmail.com. Early registration opens at 7pm on October 12th, until 7pm on October 14th. Regular registration runs from 7pm on October 18th, until 7pm on October 22nd.
Parent Socials Dates
Most dates are set for grade level parent socials with Kindergarten and 1st Grade coming up in November. Tickets sales for Kinder and 1st Grade are open and can be purchased on the HUB (these events are capped at 50 participants so reserve your spot quickly)! Tickets for other grades will be available for purchase in the upcoming weeks. Tickets are $45 each. See below for dates of grade level parent socials (excluding 3rd Grade).

Thank You for Supporting Your Tribe!!
WOW! Our school rocked the No-Hassle Fundraiser this year. We had 328 families (that's 76% of our families!) donate a total of over $51,000 dollars. This is a new participation record for our school! Your generosity will fund so many of our students' favorite activities, plus much needed improvements to technology, learning materials and furniture that will benefit the entire student body and staff. Thank you for your support!!
The class in each grade with the highest level of participation wins a Kona Ice party! Here are the winning classes in each grade:
Kindergarten: Mrs. Linder's class with 90% participation
1st grade: Mrs. Martinez and Ms. Dunagan's class tied with 91% participation
2nd grade: Ms. Bailey and Ms. Hurst's classes tied with 83% participation
3rd grade: Mrs. Crain's class with 96% participation
4th grade: Ms. Brookshire's class with 82% participation
5th grade: Ms. Lindsey's class with 81% participation

We can't thank our chairs of the No Hassle Fundraiser and Bingo Night enough!! No Hassle was one of the most successful ever and Bingo Night was incredibly fun and raised over $5,500 for booster club! Thank you to these chairs and to their committees!
